Getting The Installation Software
There are two ways to get the CMS4 installation sofware: you can either download it from Netscape's external web site, or you can copy it from a CMS4 distribution CD.
Download the CMS4 installation software for either Solaris or NT.
Uncompress the installation software and locate the setup program. |

You only need to get installation software for the system you're using - either Windows or Solaris. Don't get both. |
Where To Put It:
It doesn't really matter where you put the installation software since it's only used to install CMS4. When you uncompress the file containing the installation software it will turn into a bunch of individual files, requiring about 100 Mb of disk space. It's a good idea to create a temporary folder and keep all these files in it for now. You can actually delete this folder later.Go ahead and create a temporary folder or directory before downloading the software.

Click on the following URL and save the zip file in your temporary folder:
CMS4.1 For Windows NT This link will take you to the Test Dirve page on the Sun | Netscape Alliance site. You will need to complete the registration form before downloading. Be sure to select the Export (40-bit) version for Windows NT 4.0. The size of this file is 46.5Mb
After downloading you should have zip file with an icon like this: Double-click on this icon to invoke the Winzip uncompression utility. Be sure to Select All under the Actions menu before hitting the Extract button.
Download Instructions For Solaris:
Click on the following URL and save thetar.gzfile in your temporary directory:

After saving the
tar.gzfile, you'll need to uncompress and extract it using the Unixtarandgunziputilities. Use this command to perform both operations at once:gunzip -c *.gz | tar -xvf -When this step is complete you should have a new directory named
dist. This directory includes the installation software, documentation, and assorted utilities.
Documentation:
The documentation for CMS 4.1, Directory Server 4.1 and Admin Server 4.1 is integrated into the product .ZIP or .GZ files. After you've installed CMS4, the docs will be in a folder called manual in the server root directory. The doc files are provided in both HTML and PDF formats.
