That they have multiple network interfaces on different subnets (that 
aren't Sun Ray interconnects).

This matches what I have been observing.

If this requires a (warm) utrestart to recover, this probably is a crash 
of utauthd. It would be useful, if you could get a core file for utauthd 
  and show us the stack at which the crash occurs. Without this, we can 
only guess, if you see the same problem.
