Strictly speaking, when multicast is used, the FOG can span the domain
of the multicast. We had one customer who wanted to create a group
across several cities, and they did that by propagating multicast
packets between cities. They were an ISP so they could do that. ;-) We
recently added a capability to connect members of a group by specifying
a list of servers that talk to each other using unicast. See the man
page in 4.1 for utgmtarget(1m).
Now, that means you can't use private interconnects, obviously.
